Main Story

The Gray Ravens stay at the Forsaken camp because they have been assigned a new mission in a city nearby with Kamui and Watanabe joining them for their purposes. Kamui talks with a mysterious figure in his M.I.N.D. who claims to have helped him stave off the Punishing Virus. They want Kamui to accept him and let him take over his body. Meanwhile, the group investigates the city and finds a factory that has been corrupted and used to create more Corrupteds. The Corrupted they encounter are slightly modified from their usual models and Lucia wonders if the Punishing Virus is sentient enough to make these changes to their “designs.” The further they go, the more Kamui’s condition deteriorates until he runs off and turns off his comms without an explanation.

The Gray Ravens and Watanabe decide to prioritize destroying the factory first and they go about setting up explosives. They later encounter a Corrupted nun that recognizes Lucia. Soon the explosives start detonating and they make their escape, with Nanami and Watanabe taking a different path.

The Gray Ravens were able to find Kamui but Vera arrives to execute him. Lee calls in a favor from her to have her let Kamui go, but Bianca from the Purifying Forces was sent in to purge any defectors or corrupted Constructs. Lucia tries to help Kamui to escape albeit unsuccessfully and Chrome ends up intervening at the last minute to delay Kamui’s execution.

Hidden Story

Liv is surprised that the Corrupted that attacked them was a Sister. Lee explains that during the Golden Age, religion was on the decline so the Church replaced many of those in the clergy with androids because machines would never waiver in their faith. Liv looks through the Corrupted’s memory when she was still “human.” Her memories go back to when she first arrived in the city with over a hundred children in tow. She and the children were almost denied entry but she was able to convince the soldiers that the children are healthy enough to be able to work in exchange. Even though the Sister acted like she was annoyed with having to take care of the children, she still cared for them. When the factory in the city became corrupted by the Punishing Virus, she sacrificed herself to save many of the children even though she was also slowly becoming corrupted. The Sister was chased by another Corrupted further into the factory. She tried to kill herself but could not do so. She ponders the meaning of her life as a machine who serves both God and humans and thinks back on the fate of the two girls she met at a church shelter long ago.
